Many years ago I adopted the belief that because every day is a day to be thankful, then Thanksgiving Day is like every day. This perspective takes some of the pressure off of those who can’t be with their loved ones on that specific day. We can gather with them (in person or whatever means) on any day and proclaim it as “a day to be thankful for loved ones.” One of my loved ones started posting daily what she is thankful for. This is an excellent mindfulness exercise that helps us to focus on the positives in our lives. I like that she makes a point to post something every day that she is thankful for. What if we make this a practice for every day of the year? I recently read Erin and Ben Napier’s story in their book called “Make Something Good Today… A Memoir” (2018, Gallery Books) – they are the stars of the HGTV Show Home Town – and Erin talks about how she used this technique to ensure that she focused on the positives of every day rather than the negatives that life can bring us. So, will this exercise make the list of potential resolutions for the new year?
